Year 8 EOTC Week Day

So for today's blog, I'm going to share my experiences about Year 8 EOTC Week.
             
                                                                     Year 8 EOTC Week

First Day - The first day of our Year 8 EOTC Week should be at Monday, but it gone postponed
                   because of the news that it will rain this day and we're just going to do it next week
                   Tuesday  -  26 / 11 / 18
Second Day - The second day of our Year 8 EOTC Week is Marae and a  museum at Christchurch. 

                        This day is pretty fun because it is my first time to go to marae  -  27 / 11 / 18
Third Day - The third day of our Year 8 EOTC Week is the Omaka's Scout Camp. This day is not 

                      that fun but it's still fun because of the rain. We didn't postponed this day because the first

                      day of the week didn't rain but according to the news they said that it will rain, so the 

                      teachers decided not to postponed this day.

                      There are some activities here that we did like finding some missing numbers in the trees
                      which makes my shoes wet because of the rain, archery which is the most fun thing that I

                      did, the balancing on the rope which is fun and the thing that you are going to cook on a
                      fire which is like cooking a bread  -  28 / 11 / 18

Fourth Day - The fourth day of our Year 8 EOTC Week is going to Adrenalin Forest and Spencer 

                        Park. This day is the most happiest day of the week. It is happy because of the trilling 

                        parkour on the trees which seems dangerous. I just did the level 1 of the Adrenalin
                        Forest because when I went to the level 2, I almost went on a flying fox without 

                        putting the another cable on the string. I was so scared because I don't even know what 

                        will happen to me if I continued the flying fox without putting the right cable in it  -  

                        29 / 11 / 18

Fifth Day - This day is Friday

Passion Project - Science

So today, I'm going to tell you what we did on Thursday.

Thursday:

So when Thursday, I have dissected a rat. The rat that I dissected is female and it's not been touched. I have dissected a rat last Monday but it is been touched by a student and she just put it back to the refrigerator to be thrown up. But that is only a practice. So, I have dissected a rat on Thursday and it's pretty fun and mysterious. We have found a letter 'A' at the caucem part of the rat. We have ask a teacher but they said that the rat has a cancer. I'm not actually sure what it is, and we also found a stone like in it's stomach. We just guess that it is a stone because it is pretty hard when we touched it. Dissecting a rat is pretty fun, the rat doesn't smell at all and I don't even know why. I hope I can dissect more animals because I want to see the different parts of their body.

Year 8 Favourite Memory

                                       Most Memorable Thing That I've Done This Year

     My most memorable thing that I've ever done this year is the Filipino Salu - Salo. Because every year 7 and 8 Filipino are taking part in this event. It is fun because Filipino are having fun together and  there are some people that I talked to for the first time. I love this event because I think this is the most happiest thing I've ever seen in school. But this Filipino Salu - Salo is not just an event, this is also a celebration of Filipino culture. I hope this will happen again, or if it is happen again, I want it to be  happier than before.

Narrative Writing - The Kangaroo And The Turtle

So I have finish my narrative writing. I just continued it up so that the story is done. If you want to see the another part of my story you can scroll down and have a look at them. If you don't want to have a look, you can also have a look here.

Explanation Part:

Then George can’t handle his temper anymore, and he said, “ Fine! Let’s have a race. The first person who wins, he is going to be the friend of all animals,” Ralph said, “What? Can’t you see that I am a turtle who walks so slow?” George answered back, “ That’s why I’m challenging you. Just meet me at your home at Saturday morning. See ya,” Ralph can’t answer anymore because George ran away. Ralph is so worried, he doesn’t know what to do, he is a slow animal while George is very fast. Solution Part:     It was Saturday morning, George is getting ready for the tournament. He looks so good in his clothes. He talked to his mirror and said, “ How can poor Ralph can beat me? I am George the Kangaroo, the best animal of all,” While Ralph wears an ordinary clothes and having a warm up for the tournament. He talked to his mirror and said, “ I have nothing to wear. But it doesn’t matter, I just want to win the tournament for my friends,”. Suddenly, Ralph hears a noise coming from the outside of the cave, he was curious about it. It was his friends. They brought some clothes for Ralph to wear. Ralph is so happy then Soni talked to Ralph and said, “ I told them that you are going to have a battle with George, and they brought something for you!” Ralph cried in joy. “ I can’t believe that you guys supports me everytime that I need you. Thank you so much,”. Another noise is coming from the outside of the cave, it was George. Then George went to the cave, “ This place is disgusting! By the way, are you ready poor Ralph?” Ralph said “ Yes I am,” then George said in excitement, “ This guys are going to be my friends sooner. What are you waiting for? Let us go outside!”. Now, they are already at the outside of the cave, then the tournament begins. George is so fast, he can’t be seen anymore, while Ralph is so slow. Then he told himself that he is going to win. Many minutes passes, George almost finish the race, but he is so tired, then he saw a place to rest then he went there for a while to rest then sleep. Hours passes George is still sleeping while Ralph saw George sleeping, then he walks slower so that George can’t hear him. Minutes passes, Ralph won the race, then George woked up, he saw that Ralph won. He can’t accept it but he said something to Ralph while crying, “ Please, accept me as your true friend,  I only want to have friends like you!” Then Ralph answered back, “ Its okay, you can be my friend anytime.”. Then Ralph the turtle and George the kangaroo are now friends. They helped each other, they treat each other like a siblings. George totally changed, he is now a friend of many animals and he promised himself to be a good animal forever so that more animals will like him. Whole Story:

  

     Once upon a time, there are two animals named George the kangaroo and Ralph the turtle. They both

live in a forest but they have their own houses there. George has a house that is made up of stone, while Ralph lived in a cave. George doesn’t have many friends at all because he is a proud animal, while Ralph
is a friend of many animals because he is kind. Many animals hated George because of his attitude, then George notice something.

George said “ It seems like many animals hated me, “ then he think of it until night. Then he suddenly saw Ralph walking, and he walked towards to Ralph and said, “ Maybe you are the reason in my problem.

Many animals started to hate me because of you,” then Ralph answered back, “ What are you talking about? I’m not doing anything,”. Then Ralph run away from George.

      In the morning, George went to the cave where Ralph live and hid at the grasses. He is investigating

Ralph to see if Ralph is a bad person, but he can’t see Ralph in the cave. Then Ralph suddenly showed up,

he is with a friend. Then Ralph talked to his friend and said “ George is mad at me. He’s always blaming me

at everything, “ Then his friend Soni said, “ Like what? “, “ Like, no one even likes him. He talked to me last night and blame at me because no one likes him, “ Then George said accidentally, “ NO! It's the truth, you make me look bad in their eyes! “ Ralph answered back “ Can you hear what are you saying?, It’s your problem not mine,”.

So this blog post is about our Summer Learning Journey. We are about to choose a country and give some information.

EOTC Week - ( Marae Visit )

This blog is about Marae Visit, comment some feedbacks to help me improve my work.

Task:  Using your prior knowledge and research skills, create a list of expectations and marae
            tikanga. Create a DLO to share your information.

If a person that is never been to a marae before a elder in the group, they will often perform a protective karakia of prayer known as waerea. Usually, the group will organise their kaikaranga, their speakers and collect the donation.
When they are welcoming a group, they are responsible for them. They begin the welcome when the group of visitors has assembled. In modern times, a ritual challenge occurs when a particularly important visitor is being welcomed. When the visitors are being welcomed onto the marae, the host people will sometimes welcome them with a haka powhiri.

Before the welcome, you should arrive early. It is considered impolite to walk onto a marae once a powhiri is underway. Then, dress formally for a ceremony of mourning. Introduce yourself to other groups you don’t know. Give your koha to the community leader with the envelope. Ensure cell phones are switched off throughout the powhiri,
During the powhiri, you just not walk onto a marae, you need to be welcomed on. Do not eat or_ drink during the welcome. Do not walk in front of a speaker on the marae ata. Speak in Maori,__ not in english if giving a speech. Male sit at the front on most marae, though some marae allow_ both men and women to sit on the front sit. At the conclusion of the welcome you should harirū_ (and hongi . While on some marae kissing on the cheek is considered appropriate, others prefer_ that men and women just hongi and harirū.
You should wash your hands after the powhiri. In the dining room, manuhiri will be called in for food. It is polite to let the elders go first. Often the person calling people in for food, will say who would come first. Wait until the karakia has been said before eating. Do not pass a food over a__ person’s head in the wharekai. Do not sit on tables.

In the wharenui, remove your shoes before going into the wharenui. Check before you put your_ sleeping bag down. Certain parts of the wharenui are reserved for particular manuhiri and tangata whenua. Do not eat or drink in the wharenui. Do not step over people in the wharenui. Do not sit on pillows. I got this writing from my maori task which I wrote for about some weeks before. Blogging Helps You Improve Your Learning

   Blogging Helps Improve Your Learning

                                               Everyone has somethings to share. Especially, these days are so easy to share around the world by using Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and other more things that we use. But blogging seems different from those apps. What is blogging? Blogging is a place where you want to share you learning, thoughts and any other things or ideas that you want to share.  We can use blogging to help us improve our learning. For just like, it helps you improve your english, your spelling, writing more paragraphs and right punctuation marks in your story. It also not just  help you improve your learning, it also gives you courage because you share your ideas around the world. You will also learn to accept some feedbacks from the other people if they don’t like your work which improves you more to your learning.
When I first use my own blog, I feel really weird because why do I have to share my ideas to the whole world? At first I am scared because I thought that people would laugh at me.  Now I understand, blogging helps me a lot. It helps me improve at anything that I wanted to improve. _______________________________________________________________________________ This is a another piece of persuasive writing. But it's not about comparing it to the objects just like " dogs makes better pets than cats". It is about if you agree that blogging helps you improve your learning or not. Cybersmart - Best Research

For our today's cybersmart, we are about to share something in our blog about what we have learned today.

Today we are learning about how can you see the best research on google. So our class and 8-TS work also in the same topic at learning commons. It went good but some students are being silly so I can't focus properly.

-  We are working on it so we are in the right track every time we go on google.

So for our today's Maths, we are about to roll a dice and then record each numbers we got. We will need to create a chart in a google drawing. 

So we have a character named Shelly and her parents asked her if he would love to have $5 a week in a year or roll a dice in each week.

Question: Base on your experiment, what advice would you give to Shelley? How are you sure your advice is good?

- I think rolling a dice is better than receiving $5 a week. Because if we use probability, we are not sure what will we get, so rolling is better because for example, if you get number 6 you would have $10 which is double up by $5. 

Persuasive Writing - Dogs Makes Better Pets Than Cats

So for today's blog, we are about to write about persuasive writing. Which is about dogs and cats. So this is just a review about our writing so that we can get ready for our upcoming assessments.

Dogs Makes Better Pets Than Cats

All over the world, people has a favourite animal. But, do you think that cats and dogs are the most favourite animal all of the time? People argue about this one, they said cats are better than dogs and other said that dogs are better than cats. So I'm going to persuade you that dogs make better pets than cats.

First of all, dogs can help you a lot in your daily living. For just like, dogs are the man's best friend, they help you change your bad mood into good mood whenever you came from work or school. They also helps you guard your house from bad people trying to steal something, because dogs have better sense of smelling than people. But dogs are expensive, they cost a lot of items to buy. It doesn't even matter if dogs are expensive because you're  spending your money in such a important thing, in short it is worth it to buy dogs.

Second of all, cats doesn't even helps you a lot. For just like cats eat rats and they make big mess every night. They go out to your neighbours and trying to find a food in the bin which makes the cat stinky and dirty. That also makes you lock up your cat in your house every night which makes you feel sad that you can't make your cat free. Unlike dogs, dogs are very friendly to everyone and doesn't need to lock up every night because they doesn't go to your neighbours every night.

Last, dogs are unforgettable animals. You make memories with them which makes you laugh and cry. But remember, even though dogs are genius, you need to make time with them because they also have a feeling that are the same as people. Because I also have a dog sometimes which makes me also feel this way.

EOTC Week ( Water Activities )

For my today's blog, I am about to share some of our activities in EOTC week which will happen next week at Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. This is not the only work that I need do, there's still some other activities task that I need to do.

Matter ( Solid Liquid Gas )

So for our today science, we are talking about matter.

What is Matter?
-  Matter is anything that occupy space and has mass.
-  There are 3 states of matter

What is Solid?- Solid is made up of strong materials.
- Solid is not the same as liquid and gas.
- Solid sticks together to form a shape

Examples of Solid:
- Table
- Chair
- Pen
- Anything that can last long in your hands

What is Liquid?- Liquid is a fluid that conforms to the shape of it's container but retains as constant volume.
- Liquid is not the same as solid and gas.
- Liquid doesn't stick that much as solid but it's not the same as gas.

- Liquid soap
- Anything that you can touch but doesn't last long in your hands

What is Gas?- Gas are difficult to see, but you can see them by using a microscope.

The Kangaroo and the Turtle ( Orientation Part )

So in our writing we are about to write a story about a fairy tale or legend. So I decided to create my own story, it not done yet, so there will be another piece of writing that is about to be post.

THE KANGAROO AND THE TURTLE Once upon a time, there are two animals named George the kangaroo and Ralph the turtle. They both live in a forest but they have their own houses there. George has a house that is made up of stone, while Ralph lived in a cave. George doesn’t have many friends at all because he is a proud animal, while Ralph is a friend of many animals because he is kind. Many animals hated George because of his attitude, then George notice something.

Narrative Writing - The Toilets

    The Toilets
    Everyday, a person needs to pee anytime, anywhere. But how can a person pee in such a dirty toilet? I’m going to share to you my experiences about dirty toilets in my surroundings for everyday situations.
 
        It was Monday when the first day of school started. I was nervous that’s why I wanted to pee every time. Then, I went to a toilet to pee. The c.r that I entered is clean, smells good, but the toilets will amaze you. There are 4 toilets in that c.r. Then all of them looks good but when I open the first toilet. I was pretty shocked. The bowl is colour yellow, it seems that the person that used it before didn’t click the flush button. Then I went to the second toilet, someone’s poop there because it smells so bad when I open the toilet seat. I’m starting to panic, because there is no clean toilet at all. I went to the third toilet, it's clean, smells good but no tissue at all. Then I shouted in anger, “ what kind of toilets are these! Is there anyone that is suppose to clean this toilets?”. I really really wanna pee, but the fourth toilet is taken by someone.

        I can’t really hold my pee, then I saw a clean toilet, it was big, huge but it’s for disabled people only. Then at last, I saw a shiny toilet, it so clean, there’s a tissue in it. Then I ran there in panic. I feel so relaxed. From now on, that is the only toilet that I’m using. I feel comfortable, hopeful and happy. Because every time I go to the toilets, I make sure that every toilet is clean before I use it because peeing in dirty toilet will make you feel sick. So for our today's writing, we are about to write about narrative writing. So we are just continuing up from what we have studied at term 3. So I wrote this one at the last weeks of the term. What is Narrative Writing? - Narrative Writing is a writing about story. It can be fiction and non - fiction. This writing is a fiction, I decided to wrote this one to share my thoughts. Cybersmart Challenge #1

Question :  Explorers from Kushiro, Pevek and Namsos arrive at the North Pole and check their watches. If they arrived at 11 : 42 am, 12 : 17 pm and 3 am, respectively, which team was first?

North pole to Kushiro is 17 hours  =  3 : 06 pm to 8 : 06 am

North pole to Pevek is 20 hours and 1 minute  =  3 : 06 pm to 11 : 07 am

North pole to Namsos is 10 hours  =  3 : 06 pm to 1 : 07 am

According to google, I've searched this places and I saw that North Pole is a bit late than this countries.
For example, North Pole time is 3 : 06 pm, October 14 2018. Then these 3 places are already at October 15 2018.

Answer :  Namsos is the first team to arrived at the North Pole.

Water Bottle Rocket Experiment

Today in our science, we did a experiment that is called 'Water Bottle Rocket'.

This experiment is a rocket that is made up of water bottle, tape and some boxes. We're doing it for about 2 weeks, but we only have 2 days in a week that's why we didn't get it done earlier.

Materials needed:

-  1 Plastic Bottle
-  1 roll of tape
-  2 pieces of boxes
-  3 colour paper

Instructions:

-   You need a 1.5 litre bottle.
-   Cut some 3 pieces of wings made up of boxes.
-   Put a tape at the boxes so that it will stick properly.
-   Put a water in the bottle.
-   Put some air in the bottle with water by using a pump.
-   Wait for few seconds then your bottle will fly.

Tips:

-   Do not out too much water so that your bottle will fly high.
-   Don't cut your wings too big.


Making this experiment is a little bit hard because the box is hard to cut. Then, the wings doesn't stick too much in the bottle so you will spend a lot of time cutting the tapes.

Geometry Nets

In Maths, we have been working on the nets of 3D shapes. So we are about to create some 2 different pieces and 3D shapes and stick them together.

This task is a little bit hard. Because I haven't seen those shapes before, but I can do it. The only struggle in this task is the part of sticking your shapes together but they don't stick. It also stick in your hand and when you remove the glue the paper will get ripped. But I searched some information in google of how to do it but nothing is the same as our task. I never gave up doing it, until I reached the point that I stick them all together without any struggle. That's how I did my nets easily.

Bug Blog Post

For our cybersmart today, we are about to create a blog post about some bugs. So I am working with Sofia and she helped me to think some ideas. So this is our work.

Who does nonsense comments affect?

How does it affect them?

    -  It can cause trauma to children and make them think that they blog doesn't make any sense

3 Countries Currency

For our maths, we are about to research the history of the New Zealand Currency. So our task is to create a DLO that shows my research in New Zealand Currency. I used Google Drawing to make this DLO. We are also about to create a DLO for the New Zealand two trading partners. So it means that I'm going to show you the DLO that I made in Australia and China.

Jo Berludi

For our reading, we have a book called Jo Berludi. So this blog is about to explain what happened in chapter 1 to 3.

CHAPTER 1  - Introducing Jo Berludi
Jonah Berludi is a 8 year old guy who likes to solve problems. People called him Jo, short for Jonah. He is a private investigator and he works with his dog named Woof. People thinks that Jo is older than his age. Every time that he have a problem to solve, he never failed once. 

CHAPTER 2 - The Missing Underwear
He needs to solve a problem which is the 'Missing Underwear'. While Jo is walking to school, his neighbour called him because of their missing underwear. He needs to solve this problem after school. His neighbours were glad to meet him because of his talent to solve problems.

CHAPTER 3 - Gathering Clues
So the school ends, he went to his neighbour name Mr. and Mrs. Pickwick. Jonah is so confused, because no one wants a underwear who wore by old people. So he grab his book to take some notes from what he see around him. The first thing that Jo ask to his neighbours is where are them when the under wear was stolen. Then they said that they are at home all the time. Then Jo went to their neighbours backyard, then he saw some drag marks in the dirt, from the clothesline to the fence. Then he saw a small thread pink lace which he thinks that the thief made his gateway over his neighbours back fence. So Jo called his dog to checkout the smell of the underwear, this technique helps them to notice who is the thief because dogs have a great sense of smelling.

Respect

What does Respect mean?  Respect means doing the right to everyone. It is a positive action towards something considered of good qualities.   

How can you show respect? You can shoe respect by doing the right thing when no one is looking.  Being kind to everyone or everything. 
Giving a positive comment to everyone.

 Respect needs to be shown everywhere. Respect is an important thing to have in our attitude because    we will have this thing to us until we grow up. Showing respect to people can have a strong relationship between you and them because you are being valuable and worthy of it. Showing respect can change someone's behaviour because they will do the same thing to you and to other people which will inspire everyone. Respect towards your self is to be honest with your self, stand up for what you believe in, and develop you own opinions. Respect is a basic moral value or need which make us aware that we are human.

My name is Myka from 8Bh and I agree that we should have fitness every morning because fitness helps us in many different ways.Fitness is good for our body. It helps you to communicate with other people and it makes our body awake for about the whole day you’re in school. It also makes you feel happy and relaxing. It fights health conditions and disease because of the sweat that you produce during fitness. It's good for your muscles and bones, so fitness is good for everyone. What is the reason to hate fitness?
I don’t really like fitness but I want to have fitness every morning. It’s fun too, but doing fitness is not fair for some people because people that don’t like fitness just stand in their place. For examples, just like when we’re doing star jumps and other people swings their hands, and I think all you have to do is 1 lap for every run and just increase the other exercise so people who don’t like fitness will love it and enjoy it.

Fitness is a condition of being physically fit and healthy to fulfill a particular role or task, it is a general state of good health, usually as a result of exercise and nutrition. Fitness improves a person in all types of fitness.

From Myka We are about to write about fitness in our writing. This topic is called 'Persuasive Writing'. Persuasive writing is about your inviting or pleasing some one that you like.First, you need to write your name at the toppest of your writing, you need to include your school and name. Second, write the name of the person that you want to give about your letter. Then Write the things that you wanna write, but it has to be a pleasing writing. Lastly, write your name at the bottom of your writing. So this is my Persuasive Writing, hope you learn some information about how to write a Persuasive Writing.

Respect

      Today, we are about to write about how to show respect to other people, so we are about to write about what are the respectful things we did today. For me, I did a simple respect today, by opening the door in the building, because there's a lot of people passing at the door without anyone holding it so I decided to hold the door until people passed the door. Throwing rubbish in the right bin, I want to throw it properly so people won't work harder to clean the building. Waiting at the toilet, during interval me and my friend went to the toilet, then we saw a lot of people outside and we didn't even know why, but we still waited at the toilet so that anyone can do whatever they want to do. Then the last, I listened to my teacher while explaining somethings, I showed that by doing eye contact to her and sitting properly and waiting for her to be finished.

   

Reading Plus

      Today in our reading, we are about to do Reading Plus. Reading Plus is a site that helps you with your reading. It's our second time to use this, but I already learn a lot. You need to log in first before you start, and I started at vocabulary.

As you can see I answered the word 'historical' right, so that is the thing that you can see in your screen when you answered right.

Then in this process, I got the word 'amendment' wrong. This word is not that familiar to me so I got it wrong but it's ok there's still another word that will show.


Then when you don't really get the word, they will give you another chance to answer, so this photo is about to explain you what are the right answers in previous pages. So that one will look like this.



And after that there is a test that gives you another points to score. If you got that one right in just one trial, they will give you 4 points, but when you did it for second time, you will only got 2 points.
